TV Review: Terriers

And the new fall season is off and running. I wasn't going to miss Master Chef, however, so Terriers went onto the DVR and I finally got around to watching it today.
The premise of the show is simple, but the title is a bit confusing. Ted Griffin and Shawn Ryan play Hank and Britt two unlicensed private eyes who investigate cases while annoying the police and getting in and out of scraps - both professionally and personally.
Unfortunately, it took a good fifteen to twenty minutes to figure out that this was what the show was about. The episode started with the duo snatching a dog for the lady that does Britt's dry cleaning. Repo men or bounty hunters? I initially had trouble figuring out what they were suppose to be and the show description (that I brought up on screen courtesy of Directv) didn't help.
Once we were told and we were TOLD - one of the two actually tells someone that they are indeed private investigators, just unlicensed, well, then the story premise became a little more clear.
Through the whole show I kept thinking that these two reminded me of someone and finally as it was ending, I realized we were watching a version Sam and Dean Winchester (Supernatural) - if they were older and were looking for bad guys instead of demons and ghosts. I guess this is why the whole thing had a vaguely familiar feel to it, like we've been here and done that.
I will probably tape a few more episodes to see if this one goes anywhere. I started liking it towards the end, but with only 1.6 million viewers (according to the Los Angeles Times), it doesn't appear this one is going to be staying on my "must see - tv" list.

Getting ready for the fall kickoff! - CBS

As some of our favorite summer shows are coming to an end, the new fall television season is about to heat up.

Looks like CBS starts their new season around the 20th. Law and cop shows continue to dominate, but CBS is hoping for another "Big Bang Theory" by bringing in two comedy hopefuls.

Below is a list of the new shows. Comments and predictions are from my perception of the CBS Preview clips and I, of course, reserve the right to change my opinion once the actual season is underway!

The Defenders (Weds 9/22) -The 'trials' and tribulations of two Las Vegas attorneys. My first thought was "just what we need, yet another law show", but then I realized this one starts Jim Belushi & Jerry O'Connell. Even from the preview you can tell the stars have chemistry. If the show is as good as the preview I think CBS has potential for another hit like "The Good Wife". Plus...it's on Wednesdays - which is typically a slow television night.

Mike & Molly (Mon 9/20) - from the Producers of Big Bang Theory and Two and A Half Men. Romance story of a couple that met an a Over Eaters Anonymous meeting. I'm on the fence with this one. Riding in on the curtails of How I Met Your Mother and before Hawaii 5-0, I would say it has a good chance of making it through the season. If it gets tossed off to another night, however, from the preview I would say it is history.

$#*! My Dad Says (Thurs 9/23) - Based on a Twitter account, it's the story of a man and his father. The twist being that the father says exactly what's on his mind. Depending on where Bones lands - this one may or may not be on my watching schedule. William Shatner is drawing pretty good buzz on this one, but can a father's sarcastic remarks actually carry a show? It has the prime spot of following Big Bang Theory, so the answer may be yes. Meanwhile for me...the DVR can only record two shows, so I'm sitting with The Vampire Diaries and Bones if it continues to be on Thursday nights.

Blue Blood - Tom Selleck (Friday 9/24) The story of a family of cops (and one DA). High hopes for this one, I love Tom Selleck, but Friday night hasn't been a night for "must see tv" in a long time. It will probably go on my DVR as something to watch over the weekend, so we'll just have to see.

Survivor: Nicaragua - You'll have to go elsewhere for a review on this one because it hasn't been on my watch list for quite some time. In fact, there are only a few reality shows I keep up with, but I may make a point of watching some of this season's returning ones, just to see what all the fuss is about.

Hawaii 5-O (Mon 9/20) On my predicted hit list because Alex O'Laughlin deserves a hit show. I still haven't gotten over the cancellation of Moonlight. This is a remake of the original starring Jack Lord. I use to watch that one too, but wasn't quite old enough to know what was going on. I just liked the music.

CBS does have a lot of returning shows I am eagerly awaiting too. The Good Wife, The Mentalist, Big Bang Theory and Criminal Minds.

Looks like it's going to be a great television season!
